You could say this is the most common trout fishing method people employ because it is the easiest. Well, it may appear easy on the surface but nothing is ever easy in the world of fishing. Generally, there a three ways you can fish for trout and one is using live bait or baits, fly fishing, and/or lures. The most common live bait to use would be worms or nightcrawlers which are basically giant sized worms. How you fish with them can vary. Some fisherman will use weights and sink live bait at the bottom while others will use no weight at all and float the bait on the surface. Putting worms under a bobber is another common strategy. Ultimately, trout will hit at all levels of the water. However, external factors may contribute to when and how they do so. In cold weather such as the winter, the trout will probably be at the bottom while in the summer you may find them closer to the surface. Just remember to have the proper clothing because it gets really cold. One of the best times to fish is September and October.

Trout Fishing With Live Bait

Live bait is not only comprised of worms and night crawlers. Live minnows can be employed in trout fishing as well although they may not last very long on a hook before expiring. This would necessitate adding new minnows to the mix as one no longer serves the purpose of attracting the trout. Yes, trout fishing can be a little cruel at times.

Most of the time when my son and I go fishing we like to use powerbait. Powerbait has a smell the fish like. The only downside to using powerbait is the fish swallow the hook and I most of the times I have to clip the fishing line.

Dead bait rarely works with trout unless you venture out on the ocean or sea looking for the sea trout known as weakfish. (Sea trout are dubbed weakfish due to their weak jaw structure that hooks are known to pull out of) Actually, saltwater trout fishing lures can be used to catch weakfish as well. Generally, the best to catch weakfish is at night or when the tide is running in and out. You could say these Atlantic Ocean fish are somewhat peculiar in terms of their eating habits.

Fly Trout FishingFly fishing is, of course, one of the all-time most popular means of trout fishing. Just remember that you know the proper weight of the line when fishing. A lot of fisherman don’t take the time to know what the proper weight of the line is for the weight of the fish.To list all the manner different types of fly lures to catch trout would simply be space prohibitive. These trout fishing lures due fall into two categories: dry flies which float on the surface and wet flies that sink beneath it. Fly fishing is mostly performed in streams since churning water is needed. However, it can be done on placid lakes early in the morning as the sun rises when flies are landing on the surface. Fly trout fishing is an art and a science and does require a bit of skill and practice. Those that do put the proper time in will be rewarded with some truly fun and amazing trout fishing times.

Trout Fishing While Trolling

Trolling for trout is performed almost exclusively for the very large sized lake trout found in the aforementioned Great Lakes region. Trolling style trout fishing will entail leaving a line in the water with a lure on it while a boat will trudge across the lake. The lure is intended to draw the trout’s attention and, hopefully, entice the trout to hit the lure. Once it does, it is trout fishing action time! Once again, these types of trout are quite large and will frequently put up an enormous fight. Any by large, it is not uncommon for lake trout to reach levels of 80lbs or more. So, consider this type of trout fishing to be quite the adventure.
